Lakoda Leep, a Cherokee Nation citizen raised in Richland, Missouri, works as a cinematographer for Cherokee Film Productions.
Lakoda’s fascination with filmmaking started with making YouTube videos with friends in high school. After the videos gained traction locally, a teacher encouraged him to enroll in an off-campus video production class during his senior year, where he gained experience as a technical director for the school’s local news broadcast.
After graduation, Lakoda established his film career in Kansas City, Missouri, freelancing with production companies such as VMLY&R, Barkley and 8183 Productions. Starting out in the grip and electric department, he later evolved into the camera department by learning a niche skill, Steadicam operating, and worked as an operator alongside actors such as Fred Armisen, Judy Greer, Bobby Lee and Victoria Pedretti. Lakoda joined the Cherokee Film Productions team in 2025 to tell the stories of his people.
Lakoda resides in Tulsa and enjoys playing pool, riding his bike and walking his dog, Mello.
