It’s been an entire year since CNFO hosted the inaugural OklaHomies Short Film Contest. Get ready for a bigger and better year two.

What is the OklaHomies Short Film Contest, you ask? 

The purpose of this contest is to promote film careers, showcase film skills AND provide a much-needed break (and entertainment) while many of us are still home in this unprecedented time. This year we have an ’80s theme. Bonus points if you join in. There is a fan-favorite winner for each category and a first-place winner for each category. Make sure to share your film with your friends and family!

We were blown away with the response in 2020 and enjoyed watching the video entries. Check out the 2020 winners below.

RULES & TERMS

  • 2021 RULES AND TERMS
    • All films must be family friendly. Any films containing inappropriate language or themes will not be allowed in the contest.
    • Films are mandated to begin with the OklaHomies slate, which can be seen or downloaded below or at this link.

    OklaHomies 2 Short Film Contest: Still at Home

    • All OklaHomies participants must live in the state of Oklahoma, and all films must be recorded here as well.
    • Films must be shot and edited from smartphones only.
    • Entrants may only choose one category per film submission.
    • Films submitted in the Short Film Contest category should be no longer than five minutes total running time, including required OklaHomies contest slate.
    • Films submitted in the Short Short Film Contest category must be 60 seconds or less, including required OklaHomies contest slate.
    • Films submitted in the Indigenous Short Film Contest category should be no longer than five minutes total running time, including required OklaHomies contest slate, and must include an Indigenous person in front of or behind the camera. Winner must be able to provide proof of citizenship.
    • Films submitted in the K-12 Student Short Film contest should be produced, shot and edited solely by those 18 years old and younger and be no longer than five minutes total running time, including required OklaHomies contest slate.
    • Film entries must be recorded between Friday, March 12, 2021, and Friday, March 26, 2021.
    • **ALL films must include at least one shot of the following: video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, distance learning, a mask(s) or social distance/physical distancing.
    • Films that spread misinformation about the spread of COVID-19 will not be allowed, posted or considered for submission and will be removed.
    • Films will be judged by a team of seven judges.
    • In submitting your film, you acknowledge the possibility of your work being shared universally from various social media platforms.
    • Films are due by Friday, March 26, 2021, at 10 p.m.
    • Contestants may post their finished films on social media upon completion, but they MUST include the required OklaHomies slate and include the #OklaHomieContest.
    • Entrants who don’t include the required OklaHomies slate will be disqualified.
    • Employees of Cherokee Nation Businesses are eligible — and encouraged — to participate, but are not eligible to win prizes.

Films submitted in the Indigenous Short Film Contest category should be not longer than five minutes total running time, including required OklaHomies contest slate, and must include an Indigenous person in front of or behind the camera. Winner must be able to provide proof of citizenship.

Films submitted in the K-12 Student Short Film Contest category should be produced, shot and edited solely by those 18 years old and younger and be no longer than five minutes total running time, including required OklaHomies contest slate.

*Films will be judged by a panel of seven experienced film producers and directors from Oklahoma.
